Zillertal and Hintertux: Holidays in Tyrol
Holidays in Zillertal: A little Geography and Plenty of Tips for Interesting Sights
Let’s start from large to small and start our journey to Hintertux in the broad Inntal. It is there that the 40 km long Zillertal branches off towards the south. In Mayrhofen in Zillertal, the valley splits several times: one of the valleys is Tuxertal – and the Hintertux holiday resort is located at the very end of this romantic valley.
From the town of Mayrhofen, the Zillertal valley fans out resembling the branches of a tree. The individual valleys feature worthwhile hiking trails and mountain bike routes to be discovered during your holidays in Hintertux. Find out what else there is to be discovered through our information provided on Hintertux and Zillertal!
Hintertux: Holidays at the Hintertux Glacier
Hintertux is one of five towns belonging to the municipality of Tux. The town of Hintertux is situated at the very end of the valley at the foot of the Hintertux Glacier. In 1280, the village was first mentioned in documents as “Tukkes”. Then – like in other Alpine valleys – Romans, Bavarians, Salzburg archbishops and alternating “masters” followed.
Hintertux on the Way to the Hiking and Skiing Region in Tyrol
It is hard to believe but Alpine skiing is a relatively young sport, especially in Hintertux. This fun activity on two boards emerged in the 19th century in Arlberg – and soon after found itself in Zillertal. In 1949, the first chair lift was in operation. Today, the Zillertal 3000 Ski & Glacier World is one of the top 10 ski resorts in the world.
Hintertux Year-Round Holiday Area: Skiing 365 Days Per Year
The idyllic high mountain valley which extends from 1,300 m to 3,250 m above sea level offers summer and winter athletes, nature lovers and leisure seekers numerous possibilities to pursue their favourite pastime. 350 km of hiking and Nordic Walking trails, as well as 245 perfectly groomed ski slopes offer pure variety both in summer and in winter.
